— About the artist —

My name is Mitch Korolev. I am an environmental scientist and a semi-professional photographer.

I picked up a camera for the first time while stuck in quarantine in 2020. While I have always had a close connection to nature, photography encourages me to take a more detailed look at each landscape I encounter.

Photography and science have taken me a few places, including the wilderness of Southwest Alaska and the Amazon Rainforest. I recently moved to Western Colorado and have been the savoring the myriad of landscapes now within driving distance.

A goal of mine is to blend photography and science communication. Scientific findings are often delivered to the public as walls of text that even other scientists have trouble understanding. Photography can act as an effective tool to bridge that gap, to the benefit of our society and our planet.
